IFA Futsal 5-a-side Tournament
The boys and girls from Primary 7 recently took part in the IFA Futsal tournament at the Shankill Leisure Centre. Futsal, for those who have never heard of it, is a variety of football often associated with Brazil which focuses on developing close control and passing of the ball on a small indoor court. It has a numer of different rules that encourage the games to be fast paced and help develop the children's technical skills.
Both the boys and girls teams were in groups facing the same schools that included Springfield PS, St Teresa's PS, Knockbreda PS and Sacred Heart/Deanby PS.
In a fiercely competitive set of round robin matches, both teams put in some excellent team performances and also some fantastic individual showing too. The girls finished joint top of their group with 2 wins and 2 draws but were unfortunate to miss out on the final due to goal difference. The boys also narrowly missed out on making the final. Having won the opening 3 games in their group, they lost in the last game to miss out on the final by a point.
The children had a fantastic day out and were a great credit to the school with their performances and overall behavior. Well done!
